TOMOAKI IWAKURA 岩倉具輝
Tomoaki Iwakura takes the vision of the director and turns it into a visual expression of the story. Having worked professionally in Japan as well as America, his experience with the diverse cultures has led Iwakura to become a uniquely creative visual storyteller with the camera.
Tomoaki was born in Tokyo, Japan and was raised in a very creative household surrounded by music, art and design. In 2002, he began working for Nikatsu Studio, beginning his introduction and education to making Japanese movies, television dramas, and commercials. While Tomoaki was at Nikatsu, he enrolled at the prestigious Tokyo University of the Arts (Tokyo Geijutsu Daigaku) studying film including production and camera. After graduation, Iwakura attended the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). He received dual degrees at the College, a Master of Arts along with a Master of Fine Arts/Film and Television program.
Since then, Iwakura has shot over thirty films, television, music videos and commercials in the United States. His main focus is to create a cinematic world from looks, and his ability ranges from camera and lighting to editing and color correcting films.
Tomoaki Iwakura has moved back from Los Angeles, CA to now currently live in Tokyo, Japan.
He has been accepted into the Japanese Society of Cinematographer (JSC) in 2016.
